We found it from the attic side of the roof during a home inspection.
If you guessed the two large dark squares in the roof wood sheathing, then you are correct!
Step hard enough and your foot could go through the roof. Someone cut in the wrong place and used the board anyway with only the shingles covering the hole; we recommended a repair.
